CAFOD, one of the UK’s leading international aid agencies, is currently looking for an HIV Strategy Manager to drive forward the organisation’s response to the HIV pandemic. We respond to HIV through our development, humanitarian and advocacy work with partner organisations across 24 countries, and our awareness-raising and education work with the Catholic community in England and Wales.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to build on our impressive reputation for high-quality HIV programming in the context of Catholic values, and to contribute to our efforts to deliver real change for some of the world’s most disadvantaged people. Responding to HIV is one of the foundations of Just One World – CAFOD’s ten-year strategic framework for addressing global poverty and injustice and enhancing awareness and action on both among Catholics in England and Wales.
You will lead, develop and promote our policy, strategy and technical support on HIV, so that the work of our staff and partners remains coherent, effective and relevant in addressing HIV and AIDS, from local to international levels, in alignment with Just One World.
Based in Central London as part of our Programme Effectiveness Team, you will support programmes to deliver effective responses to HIV with Church and other partners across Asia, Africa and Latin America. You will work closely with programme teams to build their ability and confidence to engage successfully with the challenges of working on HIV. You will ensure the evidence of effectiveness and learning from their experiences informs our strategies for engaging Catholic communities across England and Wales on issues of HIV and AIDS.
You will have exceptional HIV technical skills coupled with sound Catholic theological experience in working on HIV and a firm track record of contributing to current thinking and debate on responses to the HIV pandemic within both secular and faith-based sectors. You will match this with the skills and commitment to bring cross-organisational teams together to work in collaborative ways to ensure that we maximise our impact and influence on HIV. But most important will be your ability to lead and enthuse your colleagues – to foster innovation and learning, and support them in harnessing many of CAFOD’s strongest partnerships to deliver and demonstrate effective responses to HIV among some of the world’s most disadvantaged communities.
