Vacancy: Regional Humanitarian Coordinator - Oxfam, Bangkok

Regional Humanitarian Coordinator

Based in ASIA Regional Centre, Bangkok, Thailand
Global Post B2, Fixed-term contract 2 years

Salary £29,171 – £40,795 net (take home pay) per annum with competitive, fair and comprehensive benefits package including pension, life assurance, medical and travel insurance, education, accommodation, relocation allowance and flights home.

The Asia region is the most disaster-prone area of the world, with Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Indonesia repeatedly listed amongst the top 5 most disaster prone countries globally. Asia is also the region most seriously affected by the impacts of disasters.

Population growth and greater wealth in Asia’s fast-growing economies on one hand, and persisting poverty that leaves large numbers of people vulnerable on the other hand are contributing factors to the ever-increasing economic and human costs of disasters. Rapid urbanisation, the location of several Asian mega cities in river deltas, chronic conflicts and complex urban infrastructure exacerbating this.

Oxfam in Asia supports the building of more resilient communities by delivering high quality and gender-equitable humanitarian assistance and by working with communities and governments before, during and after disasters in order to decrease levels of vulnerability and increase resilience to shocks.

The role
The Regional Humanitarian Coordinator plays a key leadership role in the region. Reporting to the Regional Humanitarian Programme Manager, you’ll manage the regional technical coordinators, support the development and delivery of comprehensive capacity investment programmes across Asia, be responsible for programme quality and also mentor or when needed step into the line and management 1st phase humanitarian interventions.. All of this will require you to draw on your field experience to offer advice and technical support.

What we’re looking for
To rise to this challenge, you’ll need experience leading large scale operational responses across a number of humanitarian contexts. Proven experience in developing programme policy and outstanding leadership qualities.. And because you’ll be dealing with a wide range of donors, Oxfam members and government officials – not to mention leading, motivating and supporting teams – your networking, influencing and people management skills must be second to none. The nature of the role means you’ll often have to travel across the region in changeable situations. But no matter the pressure you’re under, you’ll stay patient, professional and sensitive to cultural and gender differences, representing Oxfam to the best of your ability.
