Geopolitical
powershifts. A radically altered global economy. The digital revolution.
The world is changing, and so is the way that people fight for their
rights. In order to be effective, Amnesty International’s International
Secretariat needs to be on the frontline of human rights. That’s why we
have expanded our regional office in Hong Kong. And why we need your
research expertise.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our East Asia Regional Office tackles a host of diverse
issues, from abolition of the death penalty to assisting the growing
community of activists and human rights defenders across the region. In
order to effectively address human rights in China, we need expertly
developed research and campaigning strategies. And in this key role,
that’s exactly what you’ll deliver. Your work will encompass a range of
thematic areas including – migrant workers, ethnic minorities, freedom
of expression, criminal justice. You will play a hands-on role in
developing human rights projects and research strategies, and monitoring
developments in China. Ready to lead assessments of crisis situations
and able to prepare security assessments and political briefings, you’ll
work as part of a team to make sure our research is as flexible as it
is effective. You’ll also understand that building a strong network of
contacts and representing Amnesty International externally are as
central to our success as the credibility and accuracy of our reports.
ABOUT YOU
A tried-and-tested human rights researcher, you’ll have a
specialist knowledge of China and other relevant region-specific or
thematic areas, plus a well-developed understanding of human rights
issues and the varied factors that contribute towards them. You’ll have
proven your ability to write and adapt research materials for a range of
audiences, and be confident communicating Amnesty International’s
message externally, both in English and Chinese. In addition to showing
solid political judgement, you’ll know how to deal with survivors of
human rights abuses tactfully while obtaining the information we need.
You’ll also be comfortable meeting deadlines and managing priorities,
and know how to work effectively as part of a team. Crucially, you’ll be
unwaveringly committed to human rights.
ABOUT US
Our aim is simple: an end
to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we
campaign for justice, freedom and truth wherever they’re denied. Already
our network of over three million members and supporters is making a
difference in 150 countries. And whether we’re applying pressure through
powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online
campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world. One where
human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
