Background
The University of East London (UEL) has been educating individuals
since 1898 and we are now one of the most diverse universities in the
UK, with more than 120 nationalities represented on our campuses.
Progress on embedding sustainability into all of our activities has been
gathering momentum, with achievements including ISO14001 certification
for our environmental management system to the setting up of a student
sustainability skills programme (www.uel.ac.uk/greenthing).
You’ll be working on sustainability communications, events, and
policy implementation, giving you an excellent opportunity to have a
real impact at both grassroots and strategic levels within a large
organisation. We’re looking for someone with plenty of enthusiasm and
initiative who will be able to work with staff and students on a range
of sustainability issues from carbon reduction and recycling, to
biodiversity and transport.
Objective
This post is a coordinating and supportive role ensuring effective
staff and student engagement in sustainability activity across the
university. The focus will be on planning and launching a number of
initiatives that have been implemented previously at UEL such as Green
Impact, building on past successes and taking the projects to the next
level for the new academic year. You’ll be helping to build the capacity
of the Sustainability Team, raising the profile of sustainability at
UEL and assisting with policy implementation.
Benefits of this opportunity
This is a great opportunity for a creative, enthusiastic graduate to
combine engagement and communication skills with sustainability
knowledge and passion. You’ll be working in a fast-paced, stimulating
environment and see projects through from planning to implementation.
Higher education is an exciting sector with plenty of potential for
learning and collaboration and the right candidate will make the most of
this!
Future employment potential
There are plans to appoint a permanent Sustainability Team although details are yet to be confirmed.
