The job
The Green Entrepreneurship (GE) program aims to improve the economic position of entrepreneurial rural men and women based on a sound management of natural resources. Hivos aims to strengthen the capacities of rural men, women and small and medium enterprises to improve their economic position in a sustainable way. Hivos equally aims to contribute to the development of a green and fair financial sector, decentralized renewable energy, the development of sustainable value chains and improved agriculture and energy policies at national and international level, as essential ingredients for more dynamic, inclusive and green local economies.
As a member of the global GE team and reporting to the Regional Director, the programme officer contributes constructively and positively to the overall and regional Hivos policies in this field; positions Hivos in the region in line with its' policies; initiates and coordinates innovative and creative programmes and initiatives that contribute to Hivos GE objectives,
forges strong relationships and builds supportive networks with relevant stakeholders notably in civil society and amongst donor agencies, and takes responsibility for the administration and management of the GE partner portfolio.

You are a qualified individual with strong analytic skill and an ability to translate analysis into practical results.
You are entrepreneurial and not afraid to try something new. You have strong communication skills, both orally as in writing. You are a good networker with a proven ability to mobilize your network in support of the programme objectives. You are well respected in your community of practice, a team player, flexible and open minded. You are self disciplined and do not shy away from administrative tasks as part of your responsibilities.
You are passionate about the potential of sustainable agriculture and rural SMEs including smallholder organizations to become agents of change towards a more inclusive, green economic development. You are familiar with the dynamics of producer organizations and rural SMEs, the role of the private sector including financial institutions, value chain development and the impact of power in a market context.
Qualifications
* An academic background, with a masters degree in a relevant field;
* Experience with capacity building of rural SMEs and producer organizations and sustainable production & marketing, in at least one of the countries in the region;
* Experience with public - private collaboration and/or advocacy;
* Basic understanding of micro-finance, SME and trade finance
* A minimum of five years of relevant work experience, including working with civil society organisations.
* Strong networking and fundraising skills;
* Proven experience in project management and implementation, incl. budget management and donor reporting;
* Track record in programme development in the field of strengthening producer organizations, sustainable production & marketing;
* Solid understanding of developmental, political and socio-economic issues;
* Preparedness and ability to travel.
