PROJECT COORDINATOR- YOUNG HEALTH PROGRAMME

Report to: Project Manager- Young Health Programme
Location: New Delhi
Duration: Till October 2015
Level of Contact with Children: level 2

Role: The Project Coordinator will be responsible for timely implementation of project activities in the project area, documentation and reporting the results.

Nature and Scope:

Plan India is launching a project on Adolescent health named “Young Health Initiative”, which is a global signature campaign funded by Astra Zeneca to address the issues of adolescent health of the marginalized community living in the slum areas of Delhi. All the key issues related to adolescents like early marriage and pregnancy; unwanted pregnancy, illegal and unsafe abortion; increase in STI/HIV, violence, malnutrition and anaemia in adolescent girls, menstrual and sanitary hygiene and issues pertaining to smooth transition to adulthood will be addressed through integrated programme in schools as well as out of school depending on the context of the particular community.

The project area is based in Delhi. The project “Young Health programme” will work with local partners to achieve the following objectives:

  • To strengthen the capacity of adolescents by providing relevant information, knowledge on lifestyles and better choices that will help enhances responsive health seeking behaviour. 
  • To strengthen the adolescent to address and prepare the community to deal with infections which at times take shape of epidemic. 
  • Raising awareness and knowledge about access to available health care systems.
  • Addressing the immediate needs of the community in relation to health, hygiene and sanitation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • To work closely with the project team embedded with partner NGOs for Managing, implementation and monitoring of Partner’s work with the key populations ( adolescents)and technical support. 
  • Facilitating adherence of Plan India’s systems of project management (program, fund disbursement processes and financial controls).
  • Ensuring and facilitating compliance of requirements of donors. 
  • Provide guidance and direction to the project team for improving the quality of program and utilization of funds in timely and appropriate manner.
  • Support and facilitate mass media activities in the project area.
  • Collect project level data, compile and analyze the data to present the results of the project’s interventions and provide recommendations for improvements
  • Document project activities, collect project case studies, and prepare quarterly progress reports; provide input in the annual project’s report. 
  • Report to Program Manager and assist him in all project implementation aspects. 
  • Ensure project compliance with child protection standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Person Specifications:

Operational experience: Excellent oral and written communication skills – including experience in writing guidelines for development with good liaison skill.

Professional Experience

  • Post-graduate degree / diploma in community medicine, or public health / social science (or equivalent) with minimum 5 years of work experience of on public health issues within the development sector and at least 3 years in an NGO. Experience of working on children’s health issues and with adolescents to address these is desired. 
  • At least 3 years of experience at, implementation of health project – desirably in urban & peri urban slum areas.
  • Clear understanding of (and commitment to helping Plan address) the development issues affecting adolescents.
  • Excellent facilitation and training skills
  • Experience in representational roles at Health forums at national and regional levels;
  • Excellent computer skills (Windows environment)
  • Speaks, reads and writes English fluently; and speaking, reading and writing in Hindi.
Travel Requirements: Up to 50% of the time mostly in the project area, but may need to travel outside as required.
