Position
summary:
The
Agriculture Specialist will manage the day-to-day operations of the joint
Winrock-Cargill Coconut Farmers
Empowerment Program in South Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The
Agriculture Specialist will be responsible for designing and implementing a
training and capacity building program for 400 farmers in South Minahasa.
The
Agriculture Specialist will assume additional responsibilities, i.e. managing a
unique horticulture development project for farmers in Sumba. Winrock
implements this project in cooperation with Hivos[1].
The project aims to improve the livelihoods of farmers through improved farming
practices of horticultural crops, supported by the introduction of solar energy
water pumping and value chain development.
Responsibilities:
I. Coconut
Farmers Empowerment Program;
- Manage day-to-day operations
- Coordinate with Winrock partners of the program, i.e. Cargill, Syngenta, PISAgro, Pupuk Kaltim, Local Government, Trainers, Extension Agents and Farmers;
- Prepare and submit detailed quarterly and annual activity reports;
- Manage all administrative aspects of the program including the budget;
- Monitor and conduct evaluations of the impact of all training activities;
- Discussions, interviews or meeting with related stakeholders on the value chain actors, especially with farmers and traders
- Assessment on Impact of PV water pumping on livelihoods of farmers and economic cost benefit of System
II. Sumba
PV water pumping and horticulture value chain development project
- Design of project including crops to cultivate, fertilization and water requirements, best cultivation practices
- Co-develop and finalize best practices training modules for local NGO and farmer groups.
- Capacity building of local NGO and farmer groups
- Supervise Winrock’s Ag field support staff
- Manage day-to-day operations
- Closely work with Winrock’s Clean Energy team to monitor performance and provide suggestion for further improvement
Qualifications
and Experience:
- Must have minimum five years’ experience managing agricultural development projects in collaboration with local communities;
- Experience in horticulture, coconut and corn agronomy and supply chains desirable;
- Must be able to work with limited supervision;
- Experience working for international NGOs preferred
- Must have good communication skills and demonstrated experience reporting to donors and other project partners;
- Advanced written/oral skills in English preferred;
- Must be willing to travel frequently within Indonesia
- Accustomed to field related development work
Education:
Candidates
should have at a minimum a BA or BSc in Agriculture. MSc preferred.
