Save the Children has been
working in Indonesia since 1976, and in that time we have made some
groundbreaking advances in the way Indonesian children are treated and
educated. Our education work today focuses on promoting holistic
improvements at many levels
in the education system to ensure that all Indonesian children can
build strong educational foundations to fulfill their potential. We
expand access to pre-primary (ECCE), improve the quality of primary and
Jr. Secondary schooling, and improve access to quality
vocational education for youth.
School health and nutrition activities
are an important aspect of our work, as they promote appropriate
learning environments and student health to improve student attendance,
and support education quality.
Save the Children
in Indonesia also works on child protection, health and nutrition,
livelihoods, and emergency preparedness and response.
We currently
implement more than 20 grants from public and private sources in 12 of
34 Indonesian provinces.
Our 2011 expenditures were
$13m and we currently have a staff of nearly 170 professionals.
