The World Agroforestry Centre (also
known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry or ICRAF) is an
independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about
the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods.
As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty
and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with
partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations
for increased food security and ecosystem health.
The Centre’s headquarters are located
in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 34 countries in Africa, Asia
and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International
Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different
donors.
About the position
The Communications
Officer will work with
the Regional Communications Specialist and the Project Leader of the Climate-smart,
Tree-based, Co-investment in Adaptation and Mitigation in Asia (Smart Tree-Invest) project to develop and
implement the Southeast Asian regional and Smart Trees Invest communications
strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
In close liaison with the Project Coordinator and
the Research Communications Specialist in Bogor, West Java, establish a communications
plan, which will include:
- Work with the Regional Communications Specialist to support external and internal communications and resource mobilization in the Southeast Asia region, specifically our offices in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam, and liaise with our HQ in Kenya as required.
- Coordinate internal and external communications processes for the Indonesian section of the Smart Trees Invest project with the Project Leader, including collaborating in the development and implementation of a communications strategy for the project and liaising closely with staff in the other project countries: the Philippines and Viet Nam.
- Provide input to research methods and protocols in order to develop effective communications processes with targeted stakeholders and increase understanding of best-practice communications methods.
- Develop print, audio and visual communications materials as required for a range of stakeholders and a range of media.

Requirements
- Bachelor degree in communications, media, development, literature, social sciences, environment, forestry, agriculture, agroforestry or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years experience in communications, public relations, journalism, advertising or related discipline.
SKILLS
AND COMPETENCIES
- Excellent command of English and Indonesian. Other Southeast Asia languages an advantage but not essential
- Excellent writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in multicultural teams
- Excellent time management, prioritization and organizational abilities
- Willing to learn new skills and knowledge related to the content of specific projects, including new technologies and approaches
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to often remote parts of Indonesia and Southeast Asia
- Able to generate creative, practical approaches to overcome challenging situations
- Able to devise new systems and processes, and modify existing ones
