The Smart Fishing Initiative (SFI) is one of WWF’ 13
Global Initiatives that strives to protect and restore marine
biodiversity and ecosystem health through making large-scale commercial
fishing around the world sustainable.
WWF Global Initiatives (GIs) are aimed at bringing
the combined resources of the global conservation organization together
around shared priorities. They help bring about transformational change
which involves a sustained shift in behavior of key sectors of society
that reduces a threat or driver.
The Smart Fishing Initiative based in Hamburg,
Germany, is looking for an in full time working, limited until June 30th
2017, preferably located in Singapore, other options considered,
qualified and motivated
Job Descriptions:
The Senior WWF Finance / Investment Manager for
Fisheries, in close cooperation with other Marine GIs, the Global Marine
Program and the Market Transformation GI, aims to transform the Seafood
and Fisheries Finance and Investment Businesses to support restoration
of fish-stocks and marine ecosystems to enable sustainability and
long-term resource and social security.
The Senior Asia Pacific Seafood Manager will secure
commitments by selected leading Asia Pacific corporations to sustainable
and traceable seafood as defined by the WWF Global Seafood Charter and
in consistency with WWF’s Smart Fishing Initiative Traceability
Guidelines.
This includes:
- Develop and implement the WWF Asia Pacific Seafood Strategy in cooperation with the following WWF entities: Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, the South Pacific Program Office (SPPO), Australia and the Market Transformation Initiative.
- Through direct engagement with companies, and as SFI’s regional lead and coordinator help organize seafood industry-facing work by WWF offices in theAsia-Pacific region and help secure commitments from leading seafood industry actors to sustainable and traceable seafood portfolios.
- Act as a member of WWF’s global team to advance harmonization of seafood strategies with focus on traceability systems, sustainable production and ethical labour. Build cooperation with key partner entities in Asia Pacific and globally, such as MSC Asia and ASC, regional and national seafood fora and seafood associations, and a range of seafood companies.
- Develop, initiate, and supervise the production of relevant knowledge products, such as supply chain risk analyses or advice on conservation aspects of seafood traceability.
- In cooperation with TRAFFIC Asia, complete a seafood trade flow analysis and implement a strategy to influence key traders towards full transparent and traceable seafood trade in Asia Pacific.
- Based on the WWF Global Seafood Charter and WWF Global Seafood Partnership Guidelines, develop and implement WWF seafood procurement in Asia Pacific with focus on transparency and traceability strategy for the whole value chain (fisheries, processors, retailers, restaurants and hotels).
- Build and communicate best practices in sustainable seafood procurement in Asia Pacific.
- Work across the entire WWF Network to build synergies with other programs.
- Work with fundraising staff to secure resources for the WWF Asia Pacific Seafood strategy.
- Act as a spokesperson on SFI Asia Pacific Strategy.
Requirements:
- A university degree and technical proficiency in conservation, natural sciences, management, international development or another relevant field; an MBA or other degree related to business or markets is an advantage.
- 5-10 years relevant professional experience, including working in companies or in a business engagement role within an NGO. Expertise in the seafood sector and relevant sectors such as finance, retail, seafood processing, procurement or international trade.
- Experience working in one or more Asian countries; ideally with the private sector or relevant governmental or NGO actors.
- Ability and experience to motivate, organize, and support coordinated actions among colleagues and offices distributed in a complex international organizational structure.
- Direct experience of raising and managing funds with external partners on environmental or conservation issues.
- Capacity to work independently and to function effectively in virtual teams.
- Ability to raise and manage funds.
- Excellent English; other languages an asset.
- Willingness to travel frequently and internationally
