Duties and Responsibilities:
- Overall duties are to lead the design and implementation of a research project in the South East Asia region on greenhouse gas emissions from intact and degraded mangrove forests.
- Responsible for training professionals, land managers, and policymakers on protocols used to quantify carbon stocks and greenhouse gas emissions from mangroves.
- Quantify greenhouse emissions and carbon stock accumulations in intact, degraded, and restored mangrove forests.
- Work with partners and stakeholders to implement applied, collaborative research funded by external grants.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in an academic field emphasizing wetland biogeochemistry, ecology, natural resources, wetland management, or a related area from a college or university of recognized standing. ABD candidates may be considered, but all degree requirements must be completed at the time of hire.
- At least one (1) year of research experience in wetland science and management.
- At least two (2) years work experience in the South East Asia region.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in the use of greenhouse gas analyzers to quantify greenhouse gas emissions (CO2, CH4) from vegetated wetland ecosystems; tropical wetland soil processes; and research in tropical or subtropical wetland ecosystems.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary, collaborative environments.
- Record of successful grant preparation and administration.
- Record of publication of scientific research in high quality, peer-reviewed journals.
