Seeking a Nutrition Director for Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India

The Centre for Global Public Health (CGPH), University of Manitoba (UM), Canada, seeks an experienced professional to serve as Nutrition Director for a new Nutrition project in Uttar Pradesh, India, within an existing Technical Support Unit (TSU).

The TSU provides support to the Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP) on a wide platform of maternal and child health initiatives, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

The position will be based in the TSU office in Lucknow.

About Centre for Global Public Health (CGPH)
The CGPH was established within the College of Medicine’s Department of Community Health Sciences in 2008. The CGPH enhances the contribution of the University of Manitoba to the improvement of public health systems, programs and activities in diverse global settings. A cornerstone of the Centre is the design and implementation of international health and development projects in several countries including: India, Nigeria, Kenya, Pakistan, China and Ukraine. The University has three decades of experience in managing large global health projects.

Qualification and experience
  • PhD in Nutrition with about 20 years of experience in nutrition or other related development programmes.
  • Extensive experience with progressively more responsibility in large health project management and direction, administration and financial management in a team environment, preferably Nutrition projects in India or developing countries. 
  • Proven project management experience as a lead on relevant project assignments
  • Gender equality technical expertise (an asset); and
  • Preference will be given to individuals with experience managing large, long-term projects involving multi-million dollar budgets;
  • Technical expertise in a sector relating to social development (an asset).
  • Experience working with Govt, NGOs etc
Skills & Competencies:
  • Excellent writing skills (reports, work plans, proposals)
  • Good interpersonal skills, tact, maturity, flexibility and an empathic approach and knowledge of the local language
  • Strong financial management skills
  • Team Player, able to interact positively with Donors, the Govt of UP, Partners, the TSU Management & Senior and junior staff
  • Must be able to plan and strategize using evidence –based approaches. 
  • The position involved some travel within the state
Job Responsibilities
The Nutrition Director will work in coordination with Director ICDS, Director General State Nutrition Mission and Mission Director NHM as well as the ISSNIP leadership in the state. The Nutrition Director will also be responsible for coordinating implementation activities with the TSU Team Leaders and also with University of Manitoba and BMGF.

The specific functions of the Nutrition Director will be as follows:
  • Provide technical, administrative and strategic leadership to the design, implementation and measurement of the interventions to achieve the key outcomes envisaged in the grant
  • Provide and coordinate nutrition-related technical support to the Director ICDS, Director General-State Nutrition Mission, and the ISSNIP leadership in the state as well as Mission Director, National Health Mission, Director, Panchayati Raj, Commissioner Rural Development for health, sanitation, handwashing, etc.
  • Provide and coordinate nutrition-related technical support to Directors/ Team Leaders of other projects.
  • Coordinate the grant-related activities with the University of Manitoba and BMGF.
Report
The Nutrition Director will report to the Executive Director of the UP TSU.

Remuneration
The salary for the position will commensurate with qualification, relevant experience, skills, and interview performance.
