BACKGROUND/GENERAL DESCRIPTION
TFT is a global non-profit membership organization that helps companies and communities deliver responsible products. Since 1999, TFTs main focus has been to provide solutions to the issue of deforestation and the empowerment of forest dependent communities. TFT has helped companies transform their supply chains and stop forest destruction. Through the same model, TFT has involved institutional donors and individuals looking to build capacity on the ground thus giving communities and local companies the tools to provide responsible products to world markets. Now with 200+ employees and offices in 15 countries, TFT is working on a broad range of products using its supply chain expertise to identify and address social and environmental issues with a strong focus on natural resource management and traceability.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
TFT China is seeking an experienced and motivated professional, keen to secure a career within a dynamic non-profit that builds partnerships to bring responsible products to market. As Lead Project Manager, the successful candidate will have a dual role. The first will involve providing leadership and technical support for project implementation. For this role the candidate should possess strong technical forestry knowledge, good team management experience and client relation skills. The second role is to build the ongoing technical capacity of the project team, providing coaching, training and guidance where required.  Strong communication skills will be vital to fulfilling both roles to meet project deliverables and support the growth and internal coordination of the team.
  1. To lead a small team and perform a central coordination role with field officers, managers, country head and director/s;
  2. Develop short and long term work plans and associated strategy, provide technical guidance and training, oversee the implementation of tasks, provide quality control and ensure delivery deadlines are met;
  3. Provide technical support to businesses linked to pulp and paper supply chains via desktop and field assessments to identify non-conformities (GAPs) between company policy and/or third party standards and provide solutions;
  4. Through field work in forests and factories, provide quality assurance to the client that pulp and pulpwood traceability systems meet international standards, ensure the verification of legal origin of fibre within supply chains and ensure forest management practices are in accordance with associated sustainability principles;
  5. Act as the client’s contact point for the management of the project in China and as required client and company focal points outside of China;
  6. Report on project progress, forthcoming activities, highlighting milestones and challenges in advance of critical stages of the plan’s execution;
  7. Provide structured communication with client representatives, TFT team members (both in China and elsewhere) and other stakeholders as needed;
  8. Monitor programme budgets and report as necessary to allow proper management of project funds;
  9. Draft regular reports and meeting records and maintain communications with TFT China, TFT’s head office abroad, TFT clients and stakeholder as required.
  10. Develop and implement management and training recommendations for companies working toward responsible forest management, production and product supply chain control;
  11. Maintain a practical awareness of the challenges within forest operation and pulp & paper supply chains and be able to adapt the work plan as required to achieve the targets set;
  12. Take ownership of all aspects of the project and demonstrate the capacity, competence and willingness to work through all challenges;
  13. Consult with local organizations and specialists as required to achieve project deliverables and represent TFT.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor degree or higher in forestry/natural resource management/supply chain management or business management or other related filed.
  2. Minimum three years professional experience forestry (or other) and ideally experience in project management. Preference will be given to candidates that have proven forestry experience (management and/or certification), chain of custody, complex project management scenarios or supply chain logistics;
  3. Working knowledge of sustainable forest management standard principles and criteria, chain of custody for forest products,
  4. Solid understanding of environmental management issues and ability to appreciate specific environmental and social issues that is relevant to client supply chains;
  5. Strong project planning, coordination and management skills;
  6. Highly effective spoken and written communication skills at both executive and operational levels in English (Mandarin Chinese will be of significant benefit).
  7. Ability to internalize and demonstrate organizational values in all aspects of work and communication;
  8. Strategically minded with capacity to demonstrate forward thinking and strong analytical skills to foresee and overcome challenges;
  9. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues and clients;
  10. Ability to network and communicate with stakeholders and clients to introduce TFT and our approach;
  11. Working knowledge of MS Office to facilitate clear and structured reporting and clear data presentation;
  12. Strong ability to work self directed, provide leadership, work independently and in a small team.
  13. Ability to prioritize and organize his or her own work schedule.
