MPOWER Summer Internship – Finance
The company:
Interested
in joining a young DC-based startup focused on removing financial
barriers to higher-education? Have you experienced first-hand the
challenge of getting a private student loan from a bank as an
international student or as a resident without a strong co-signer?
MPOWER is a start-up headquartered in DC and believes in broadening
access to credit for high-potential students left out of traditional
banking options.
The role:You’ll serve in a central role
on MPOWER’s Finance team. In this role, you will lead an impactful
finance initiative from start to finish. You will also assist with
budgeting, forecasting, portfolio analysis, and ad-hoc financial reviews
& analysis. This will be an opportunity to report directly to
MPOWER’s Chief Financial Officer and get exposure to the rest of
MPOWER’s leadership team.
Specifically, you will be involved with:
- Expanding financial monitoring and reporting systems
- Assisting with the creation of monthly budget review presentation, including: sourcing and validating data, analyzing trends, and making strategic recommendations
- Conducting projected v. actual analysis and providing feedback
- Developing quarterly loan volume and revenue forecasts
- Researching and implementing optimized treasury management
- Coordinating external CPA efforts to ensure seamless and error-free reporting
- Leading a company-wide project to streamline and automate data gathering and reporting
- Documenting compliance procedures and processes
- Suggesting improvements in operational processes
The qualifications:
- Working towards or have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field
- Understanding of MPOWER’s mission; passion for making a positive impact on students’ lives
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required
- Strong analytical, quantitative, problem solving and conceptual skills required
- Must be detail oriented and able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
- Must be able to work independently or in a team setting
- Have a good understanding of financial services and consumer loan products specifically
- Expert level proficiency with Excel and advanced proficiency in financial modeling preferred
- Comfortable working in a startup environment, meaning a small agile team, fast-evolving roles and responsibilities, a high degree of autonomy, and 80-20 everything
- Positive outlook, sense of humor, and ability to communicate openly
- Fluency in foreign languages is a plus
