OIC: The Cambodia Project is an initiative working to establish speech therapy in Cambodia for people with communication and swallowing disabilities.
We launched in 2013 in partnership with CABDICO, a Cambodian disability organisation, to start the country's first program in bringing speech therapy to Cambodia for the more than 600,000 people with communication and swallowing disabilities.
We have four priority areas of work:
We have a 14-year strategy from 2017 to 2030, that will ensure speech therapy is led by Cambodians and available to all who need it in Cambodia. Our end goal is 100 speech therapists employed by government by 2030, after which OIC will exit the country and government will take over.
Position Purpose:
The Media Coordinator is responsible for maximising media outreach for OIC. He/she will pitch stories to media (especially in Australia and Cambodia, but with a view to extending media reach internationally) and manage a media outreach plan.
Success in this role means increased media visibility for OIC. The best candidate for this position will be able to identify new pitch angles and be proactive in identifying media opportunities for OIC.

Essential qualifications, experience, skills, and personal attributes:

- We will establish the first university course in speech therapy in Cambodia by 2020, to train the first generation of Cambodian speech therapists.
- We will ensure jobs for these graduates are created, both in the private and public sector.
- We will raise awareness amongst all levels of community and government, as speech therapy is an entirely new concept in Cambodia.
- We will influence government policy, to ensure local ownership of the solution.

- Managing and updating the media outreach plan
- Managing the support staff to follow up media pitches
- Keeping the media contact list up to date
- Keeping the media coverage document up to date
Other media tasks, as required
- As an example, supporting the Managing Director's trips to Australia or internationally with media outreach.
Essential qualifications, experience, skills, and personal attributes:
- Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
- Experience in media relations
- Proactive, and able to work independently and manage priorities
- Skills using Microsoft Word
- Experience in development work
- Residing in Australia or Cambodia
- Quarterly goal setting, including for professional development
- Opportunities to participate in (or facilitate) internal training activities
- Field visits to Siem Reap, where possible and relevant to the role
