Senior Crisis Advisor

Fixed Term Contract –Duration until 31st March 2019
£56,168 per annum pro rata
For
50 years, we’ve been campaigning for human rights wherever justice,
freedom and truth are denied. We’ve reshaped policies, challenged
governments and taken corporations to task. In doing so, we’ve changed
thousands of lives for the better. Join Amnesty at our new Secretariat
office in Hong Kong and you will too.
About the role
In
this exciting, high-profile role you will be one of the organization’s
most visible, front-line representatives in the crisis. You will conduct
research / investigations, writing reports, briefings and press
releases, conducting press work, and advocacy – all in difficult and
often dangerous circumstances and with pressing deadlines. You will also
provide advice on security issues and conflict research methodology and
support the development of related training and capacity building of
research staff.
About you
With
extensive experience of undertaking human rights investigations in
crisis or emergency situations, ideally in more than one region, you
have proven ability to document human rights abuses, analyse your
findings and report them quickly and accurately on a regular basis. You
express ideas in a fluent, clear and concise way in both English and at
least one other relevant language. You have expert knowledge of human
rights and international humanitarian law and the operations of
military, security forces and IGOs/NGOs. You have demonstrated political
judgement and a strong ability to communicate the organization’s
messages effectively through a variety of media and directly to policy
makers. You are able to work independently, quickly and well under
pressure, and deal comfortably with rapidly changing demands and
situations and understand security management in the region you're
working in. Finally, you'll be comfortable having a media profile -
including doing interviews and fundraising.
This
post requires at least 50% international travel away from its London
base, so it’s crucial you are willing and able to travel at very short
notice for long periods of time to hostile and/or high risk environments.
