The MasterCard Foundation is a global foundation based in Toronto,
Canada. Its programs promote financial inclusion and youth learning in
Africa. The Foundation was established in 2006 through the generosity of
MasterCard Worldwide when it became a public company. From inception,
the Foundation was designed to be a separate entity and independent
from the company, and its policies, operations and funding decisions
are determined by its President and CEO and Board of Directors.
The Foundation believes that every person has the potential to transform
their lives and improve the lives of their families and communities.
The Foundation collaborates with partners to advance sustainable and
scalable solutions in financial inclusion and youth learning, focusing
on countries – particularly Africa – that face high rates of poverty,
limited access to financial services, and growing numbers of
out-of-school youth.
Reporting to the President and CEO, and serving as an integral member
of the senior leadership team, the Director, Communications will be
responsible for developing and delivering on a full-function integrated
communications, branding and media strategy. This is a strategic role
that will advance the Foundation's mission by building its international
reputation and influence as a thought leader in financial inclusion
and education, and as an innovator among its peers in global
philanthropy. The Director will deliver on a strategy that coalesces
the Foundation's vision, results and learnings into compelling
messaging that builds the Foundation.
The ideal candidate for Director should have more than ten years of
senior management experience and leadership in managing comprehensive
strategic marketing and communications, media relations, and marketing
programs to advance the Foundation's mission and goals. This experience
may come from the corporate sector, not-for-profit environment or
other relevant organization, and the ability to work with a variety of
constituencies and partners ranging from heads of state to the Board of
Directors and the media will be important. Experience working in a
global context, especially Africa or other parts of the developing
world, would be an asset. An undergraduate degree in communications,
marketing or related field is required, and a master's degree would be a
plus.
Initial screening of applicants will begin immediately, and continue
until the position is filled. The MasterCard Foundation will be
assisted by Heidrick & Struggles, Inc. Nominations and applications
