Background:
Prague Civil Society Centre seeks candidates for the position of Communications Officer in an emerging, progressive, multi-national team. Starting as People in Need’s project, the Centre will spin off as an independent organization as soon as viable. The Centre’s mission is to empower civil society actors in Eastern Europe and Central Asia in their quest for changes and for more open, democratic societies that would respect human rights and dignity. In the face of recent trends of undermining civil society in the region, the Centre is to nurture and support both established and emerging organizations and initiatives and bring together active citizens of very different backgrounds. The focus is on innovative approaches and methods of operation. The Centre is going to serve as a hub of civil society activists from all over Eastern Europe and Central Asia, facilitating working relations, knowledge-sharing, and exchange of rich and inspiring expertise that has been accumulated in the region.

Position & Responsibilities: 
  • Work in close partnership with the Directors, International Relations Advisor and Programme Officers to plan, develop and implement a public relations strategy and to promote the activities of the organisation;
  • Write and edit articles, speeches, opinion and analytical pieces drawing on the Centre’s work and experience within the broader discourse on civil society and democracy assistance;
  • Write, edit and manage publication of activity reports, brochures, leaflets and other formats presenting the Centre’s work as well as annual reports for a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Maintain the organisation’s website;
  • Develop the social media strategy, ensure its implementation,  manage/update information and engage with users on social media;
  • Take care of the visual aspect of the organisation’s communication;
  • Liaise with and answer enquiries from media, individuals and other organisations;
  • Collate and analyse media coverage of the organisation;
  • Be responsible for managing the Centre’s contacts including through the contact database;
  • Contribute to the organisation of public events;
  • Support the senior staff in organizing networking trips;
  • Participate in fundraising activities and preparation of proposals;
  • Manage the public relations aspect of a potential crisis situation;
  • Support other team members with proof-reading of important written communication; 
Necessary Qualifications:
  • Excellent writing, verbal and presentation skills in English (native speaker level);
  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject such as English, journalism, media relations;
  • Proven experience in a communications, public relations or journalist role;
  • Experience in media strategy planning on behalf of an organisation;
  • Awareness of international media landscape (ideally with good knowledge of foreign policy outlets);
  • Good understanding of political developments and trends in the former Soviet Union;
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of the organization;
  • Capacity to work in a multi-national team, patience and team-spirit;
  • Initiative and creativity;
  • Ability to cope with criticism;
  • At least reading knowledge of Russian is necessary.
