Director of Global Health
Adara Development
Rare opportunity to work in a unique organisation and lead the Global Health Stream of an international non-government organisation (INGO)
- Are you a Global Health expert passionate about making a difference for women and children?
- Are you looking for a challenging, wide ranging and rewarding role?
- Would you like to take a leadership role in an INGO and leading ‘business for purpose’ to change the way people think about the role of business and the power of business/non-profit partnerships?
The Adara Group is seeking an experienced, dedicated and energetic individual at an exciting time in our strategic development. We need someone with exceptional skills to be responsible for providing visionary and practical leadership and management for our Global Health Stream in order to reduce newborn and maternal deaths.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working with the Global Leadership Team, you will set our global health vision, strategy and direction; lead and manage Adara’s Global Health Team; manage the global health budget; ensure compliances and manage operations in the USA and Ugandan offices; ensure service excellence in all our healthcare activities; lead our global health scale-up work; and represent Adara on a global stage.
The Adara Group has two quite different parts, but one united purpose – to support people in poverty. The first part is an international development organisation, made up of non-profit companies and trusts spanning six countries, called Adara Development. The second part is two Australia-based corporate advisory businesses, Adara Advisors and Adara Partners. Adara Advisors is a BCorp.
The Adara businesses are ‘for purpose’ rather than for profit. Their sole objective is to fund Adara Development’s administration and emergency project costs. This allows 100% of all other donations received by Adara Development to go directly to project-related costs.
Adara was established in 1997 and is focused on improving health and education for women, children and communities living in poverty. We are experts in maternal, newborn and child health, and remote community development. We reach tens of thousands of people living in poverty each year.
The Adara Group has operations in six countries – Australia, Nepal, Uganda, USA, Bermuda and UK. We implement country programmes in Nepal and Uganda. In Nepal, the Adara programmes are in the Himalayan Mountains of the Humla and Ghyangfedi regions and the capital city of Kathmandu.
In Uganda, our work is focused in the rural Nakaseke District. We are currently planning to scale-up our work particularly in newborn health, in order to have a greater impact.
It is likely you will travel internationally for three to six months per year to Uganda, Australia and Nepal.
The successful applicant must possess the following:
- Very strong leadership qualities with demonstrated ability to lead a global team
- At least three years’ experience managing teams and operations in a not-for-profit or health service organisation, preferably in cross-cultural settings
- Clinical or public health tertiary qualifications with expertise in maternal newborn child health (MNCH)
- Experience working in international development in the developing world, ideally in Africa
- Experience working at a global health level with large multilaterals is a benefit
- Ability to work with staff internationally to develop a culturally appropriate and practical collective vision for MNCH, and implement it with buy-in from the global team and other stakeholders
- Ability to travel extensively (3 to 6 months pa) to Uganda, Australia and Nepal
- Flexibility, creativity, openness, kindness, honesty and fairness.
