The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the German International Cooperation implementing sustainable development on behalf of the German Government.
GIZ has a record of more than 20 years of involvement in renewable energy (RE) in Indonesia. Starting from rural electrification and mini hydropower, the portfolio expanded to other renewable energies and larger grid connected systems such as biomass and photovoltaic.
GIZ in cooperation with the “Directorate General for New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (DG NREEC)“ is presently implementing the project “Promotion of Least Cost Renewables in Indonesia”. The project aims at the use of renewables in areas where they can be applied most cost efficiently.
We are currently looking for an: Junior Advisor - Renewable Energy
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the communication between the project and the partner institution DG NREEC
- Support public and private sector stakeholder cooperation through establishing and liaising with relevant national and international stakeholders
- Assist in the development of capacity building curricula and in international training activities
- In close coordination within LCORE team support PV related activities and policies and regulations
- Liaise with private sector and private sector institutions/bodies on options for PV applications
- Assist the principal advisor in project management tasks as assigned
- Facilitate and assist in project monitoring
Task
Management and Coordination
- Coordinate and up-date all project implementation plans and prepare for bimonthly reporting based on milestones and activity status
- Review technical reports and monitor project progress, determine bottlenecks and recommend alternative courses of management action to senior staff
- Assist workshops, trainings, study tours and other capacity building events on subjects that are related to LCORE key performance indicators
- Coordinate and up-date all project monitoring tasks and activities in close cooperation with the principal advisor
- Support the implementation of pilot projects in the field of solar energy project development
- Support steering and overseeing the technical and socioeconomic feasibility assessment of solar energy pilot projects in close coordination with the superior and/or external consultants
- Coordinate national consultants and service providers in pursuance of qualified deliverables as mutually agreed
- Support in scaling up projects jointly with stakeholders
- Provide pre-feasibility assessment for PV projects (technical analysis and financial modeling)
- Support the assessment of technical and economic feasibility of PV project proposals especially in collaboration with Indonesian agro-industries, project developers and (German) technology providers
- Contribute to the development, supervision and monitoring of implemented RE pilot projects
- Identify and quantify scaling up options from pilot projects jointly with stakeholders
- Maintain contacts to relevant government counterparts, private industries, NGOs, and other government institutions related to Photovoltaic activities
- Support the team leader in management and monitoring activities
- Back-up maintenance and follow up of contacts with German and Indonesian RE technology providers, industry and PV project developers
- Prepare reports and publications regarding progress and results of LCORE project, and contribute to other reports as required by the Principal Advisor
- Stay abreast of developments in global and Indonesian approaches for PV and climate change mitigation,
- Evaluate, document and monitor comprehensively photovoltaic pilot projects
- Prepare presentation materials such as brochures and power-point presentations on project results at seminars and conferences
- Subject to discussions with the LCORE Principal Advisor, the junior advisor may be allocated additional tasks and other duties for shorter periods.
Required qualifications, competences and experience
- Indonesian national
- Science orientated master’s degree in environmental or electrical engineering or comparable with good understanding of technical and economic aspects of photovoltaic;
- Familiar with the major issues of photovoltaic energy in Indonesia, ideally with working experience in energy-related company;
- Prior experience in photovoltaic industry is advantageous;
- Familiar with the major issues of renewable energy in Indonesia, ideally with working experience in energy-related company;
- Prior experience in international R&D institutions is advantageous;
- Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office);
- Very good communication skills with national stakeholders;
- Focused and proactive working attitude;
- Knowledge and experience in photovoltaic software products is preferable;
- Very good knowledge of English, including writing capabilities;
- Availability to travel within Indonesia for short-term project visits;
- Positive attitude in taking responsibilities and new activities;
Professional experience
- At least 2 years working experience in RE related organization or company
- Familiar with the major issues of renewable energy in Indonesia, ideally with previous exposure to the REnergy-related private sector in Indonesia;
- Prior learning and/or working experience outside of Indonesia is an asset;
Other additional competences:
- Availability to travel within Indonesia for short-term project visits on short notice.
