Consistent with our core objective to mine for progress, MMG has established a functional area – Social Development and Public Policy – to create single point accountability for the support of community engagement strategies and social development programs in the communities in which we operate.
As a consequence, the position of Senior Specialist Community Relations has been created. Reporting to the General Manager Social Development & Public Policy, this position is responsible for leading MMG’s approach to creating positive and mutually beneficial relationships with our partner communities. You will do this by developing and supporting the application of community relations strategies that manage social risk at our operations as well as mentor and coach our community relations teams globally.
An innovator who can influence outcomes, deal with ambiguity and identify opportunity, you are eager to assume the responsibility of making a significant contribution to MMG’s success through the provision of operationally and commercially astute advice to this global mining house. With experience in a similar role (ideally in a developing country context where communities hold mixed views on extractive industries), you are known as an outstanding relationship manager and communicator in cross-cultural contexts and are keen to apply that expertise to a function that is already highly valued for the expert and specialised advice and direction it provides to the business. While experience in the resources sector is particularly relevant, we would also welcome applications from international aid and development professionals who have expertise in community relations and the identification and successful management of social risk issues.
While this role is based in Melbourne, naturally, your brief to provide high level support on matters relevant to our operations and the requirement to develop strong relationships with communities will require you to spend time at MMG sites globally. As such, an ability to travel domestically and internationally is essential.
