Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Southeast Asia Director – and in close coordination with the Director, Forestry – the Senior Associate, Community and Smallholder Forestry will support implementation of Rainforest Alliance forestry technical assistance in Southeast Asia, with a focus on Indonesia. This will include supervision of project activities supporting the development of community forest enterprise (CFE) across the archipelago, as well as efforts to connect smallholder forestry operations in Java, Kalimantan and Sumatra with preferred markets. In addition to assisting with ongoing project implementation, s/he will contribute to the development of new forestry support initiatives in Indonesia and the wider region.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise implementation of funded community forestry and landscape projects in Indonesia to enhance the capacity of smallholder and community forestry operations, working together with local partners;
- Lead work planning, progress and financial reporting and performance monitoring of funded projects;
- Provide direct technical support to local partners implementing field activities under sub-grants;
- Oversee contracting of consultancies and sub-grants;
- Undertake technical reviews of consultancy and sub-grant deliverables;
- Assist the Southeast Asia Director with the identification of strategic opportunities;
- Support new project development through proposal drafting and revision;
- Develop and maintain alliances with NGOs, governments, private sector and other stakeholders in sustainable forest management and market linkages, and;
- Other duties as assigned.
This position may oversee staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies; including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Qualifications:
- • Advanced degree in forestry, natural resource management, or related field required;
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management, planning and monitoring;
- Field-level experience in community forestry, ideally with a focus on enterprise development;
- Experience in design of proposals and projects;
- Excellent communication skills - written, presentation and verbal;
- Proficiency in English required;
- Strong organizational skills with ability to take initiative, attention to detail and work independently;
- Ability to communicate and engage with diverse stakeholders including governments, companies and NGOs; and
- Ability to travel a minimum of 25% of the time.
