GAIN’s purpose is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving the consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition. In particular, we aim to improve the consumption of safe and nutritious foods for—at a minimum—1 billion people over the next five years and target major improvements to food systems, resulting in more diverse and healthier diets for vulnerable people in countries where we work. GAIN Indonesia has been operational in the country since 2012 and has received funding to continue and upscale its country programs at least until 2020.
GAIN is working with the Surabaya City Government to improve the urban governance for nutritious and safe food (NSF) system, by co-developing a food and nutrition action plan. GAIN selected Institute Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya to conduct food system assessment and facilitate the Surabaya City Government on developing an actionable Food and Nutrition Action Plan.
The Program Manager for Urban Nutrition will coordinate implementation of GAIN’s Urban Nutrition project, including management and coordination of GAIN consultants and executing agencies (EAs) assisting with implementation.
In this demanding yet rewarding role, she/he will work closely with the Global Program leads for Urban Nutrition, the Technical Lead for urban nutrition work stream, the Indonesia Technical Director and other GAIN technical staff and partners on the design, planning, implementation and on-going monitoring of all project activities. The Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the overall project milestones and goals are met and that activities are well coordinated with GAIN partners including government, civil society and academia. She/he will generally contribute to increasing GAIN’s profile and reputation in Indonesia and beyond.
The ideal candidate will be highly experienced in developing and managing projects in a multi-cultural environment in the private sector, government or international organisations. She/he will also have demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary implementing partners in time-bound programs. Ideally, she/he will hold a bachelor’s Degree in public health, nutrition, food science, or have an equivalent combination of education and behaviour change implementation work experience.
