International Union of Food Job Vacancies: 2 Positions, Jakarta - Indonesian

The International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations (IUF) is an international federation of trade unions representing workers employed in agriculture and plantations; the preparation and manufacture of food and beverages; hotels, restaurants and catering services; all stages of tobacco processing.

The IUF Asia/Pacific Regional Secretariat in Jakarta is currently seeking enthusiastic, hard-working and committed persons to fill the following positions: 

Assistant Research Officer - Agriculture & the Environment 

Under supervision of IUF Asia/Pacific Regional Secretary, the Assistant Research Officer will participate in action-research projects by assisting in data collection and validation; surveys; interviews; mapping and documentation in three key areas:
  • Human rights violations and human rights risk in the production of food crops and in agricultural supply chains; 
  • The impact of climate change on agricultural workers, small farmers and their communities;
  • Occupational health, safety and the environment in agriculture with a focus on women workers and women farmers.
  • The Assistant Research Officer is required to translate reports, policies, training and education material and other documentation into Indonesian and to translate the results of surveys, interviews and data collection into English.
  • The Assistant Research Officer will join a team working on climate justice for agricultural workers, small farmers and rural communities, and will assist in research and documentation for meetings and conferences on climate justice.
  • While the research work will be primarily focused on Indonesia, the Assistant Research Officer may also be required to assist with research activities in other countries in the Asia/Pacific region.
The position is open to Indonesian nationals.
  • A background in the study of agriculture, agronomy, climate science, development studies, gender and development or human rights would be an advantage.
  • Candidates should be fluent in English with very good writing skills. Experience in research and report writing in English is required, as well as very good communication skills.
  • Candidates should be able to work under pressure, exhibit discipline in their approach to work and ensure the accuracy and integrity of their research. They must be able to travel and to work in a difficult environment in the field.
  • Furthermore, candidates should be committed to human rights, gender equality and social justice, with a view to improving the lives and well-being of working people.
Assistant Research Officer – Gender Equality

Under supervision of IUF Asia/Pacific Regional Secretary, the Assistant Research Officer will assist in research and analysis, data collection and validation; surveys; interviews; mapping and documentation in four key areas:
  • Assessment of discrimination and inequality in the workplace and the barriers faced by women workers in securing equal opportunities in employment, access to training and promotion and equal pay; 
  • Gender audits of workplaces in in the IUF sectors to assess women’s access to employment, promotion, pay equity, and job security;
  • Evaluating the impact of automation and new technologies on women workers in the IUF sectors;
  • Developing education and training material on gender equality and women workers’ rights.
  • The Assistant Research Officer is required to translate reports, policies, training and education material and other documentation into Indonesian and to translate the results of surveys, interviews and data collection into English.
  • The Assistant Research Officer will join a regional team working on gender equality and will assist in research and documentation for meetings and conferences both in Indonesia and overseas.
