BACKGROUND:
UNITAR’s Sustainable Cycles (SCYCLE) promotes the development of suitable societies through the reduction of the environment load caused by production, usage, and final disposal of ubiquitous products. It uses independent research, comprehensive and practical research, and education that provides facts for more thorough policy development and decision making.
In line with the Institute’s efforts to improve its research and training activities and special events, the SCYCLE Programme Unit is enhancing its outreach and communication strategy and products.
SCYCLE welcomes qualified candidates interested to work for a period of six months, to work for the SCYCLE Programme unit. The placement is on an unpaid basis, but a monthly stipend of USD 500 will be provided towards transportation and miscellaneous costs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the overall supervision of the Manager of Sustainable Cycle (SCYCLE) Programme Unit and the incumbent will assist with the development, technical setup and design of SCYCLE’s social media presence. The incumbent will fine-tune social media content developed with SCYCLE colleagues, prepare it for appearance in LINKEDIN, FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM and TWITTER in attractive and professional designs along SCYCLE’s corporate identity and upload the necessary for appearance in social-media. The overall aim is to substantially increase SCYCLE’s visibility and engagement, making SCYCLE the hub of e-waste related research and training. Therefore, the observance of other important developments and social media postings and announcing or reposting through SCYCLE is vital as well.
- To support colleagues in the development of social media content
- To liaise directly with partner organizations and beneficiaries in preparation for social media postings;
- To undertake research that may provide necessary input into such outreach activities;
- To draft news social media postings about past and future activities;
- To monitor SCYCLE social media;
The tasks assigned may be reviewed during contract period to reflect changes in programme needs and priorities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After the assignment the trainee should be able to:
- Translate strategic vision into actionable objectives;
- Work independently and take initiative;
- Be familiar with UNITAR’s branding guidelines;
- Ameliorate, adapt and design SCYCLE’s external social media products in a professional way;
- Develop a professional rapport with UNITAR and United Nations staff;
- Work in a multicultural environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree (with a proven track in social media) or Applicants who have recently graduated.
Candidates should also have: demonstrated interest in applied research; ability to write in a clear and concise manner; analytical and research skills; administrative and organizational skills to assist in the organization of SCYCLE’s communication work; computer skills (to deal design and technical setups for social media etc.) and a high level of individual responsibility, commitment and initiative.
Languages: A high standard in both oral and written English are required. Knowledge of any other UN language is an advantage.
REMARKS:
The traineeship programme is normally on a full-time basis and trainees are expected to work five days a week. Requests for part-time arrangements are possible and should be agreed before the start of the traineeship.
