ABOUT THE ROLE
You would be collaboratively working with farming communities (smallholders and plantations) and other local stakeholders (government researches) to understand their business, improve collaboration efforts and creation of value and promotion of resilience. With the focus of human-elephant coexistence project and sustainable farming practices, that promotes forest conservation (High Conservation Value, High Carbon Stock, MSPO principles). This would be a field-based role in our Johor or Pahang project site.
YOUR MISSION
As Environment Project Officer (Human Elephant Coexistence & Sustainable Farm practices), your day will be primarily focused on:
- Conduct fieldwork, including diagnostics/baseline studies, reports and participative action plans for community transformation projects;
- Organise community trainings and technical support where required;
- Connect with local stakeholders, government bodies, NGO in understanding their role, building trust and maintaining collaboration;
- Implement community transformation projects (community groups for human elephant conflict patrolling, identifying and managing wildlife corridors and mapping integrated fencing);
- Collect and maintain database of project output, outcomes and impact;
- Produce periodic reports for internal and external stakeholders. Including regular communications with Project Manager on challenges and issues;
- Participate and support of other programmes in and outside the SCFS landscape as per the need and management request.
YOUR PROFILE
Passionate about agriculture, social science, rural development, forestry and conservation you love to continuously grow your knowledge of these thematic to providing quality advice, ideas and drive impact. You are comfortable in participating actively either internally and externally in development and implementation of community transformation programs in the SCFS landscape. Genuinely enjoying to spend time in remote and rural areas, you are autonomous in nature. Thanks to your entrepreneur spirit you are inclined to innovate, in collaborations with rural communities and agriculture companies.
Preferably with an academic background in social, rural development, agricultural, forestry or fields related to community engagement and transformation you have a strong interest in addressing environmental issues. Technical experience of mapping and analysis, wildlife monitoring analysis and community-based conservation projects would be a great asset to be successful in the role. Being familiar with sustainability topics such as certification, responsible sourcing, high conservation value and high carbon stock approaches will enable you to address some of the challenges linked to your role effectively.
Excellent communicator and organized professional you easily engage with local communities in rural areas or agriculture environment. Your appetite for being factual leads you to seek for data collection, interpretation and reporting as well as monitoring global and local policies developments in your field.
Working Conditions:
- Fluent in English & Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
- Full-time, 2 years contract;
- Start date: as soon as possible
- Location: Johor or Pahang, Malaysia
- Malaysian citizenship required
