I4DI is looking for a Project Associate for the USAID/Mars programme. The Advancing Agroforestry Towards Income, Value, and Environmental Sustainability (ACTIVE) activity funded by USAID/Mars aims to scale up evidence-based agroforestry practices that build on a long-term jurisdictional approach utilising farm-level technology to advance climate-resilient practices, increase smallholder incomes, and ensure high-quality cocoa supply in South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi.
The Project Associate will support the Project Manager, Chief of Party (COP), Mars, and USAID to manage ACTIVE’s core technical components of access to finance, access to insurance, and business enabling environment to support the adoption of cocoa agroforestry by farmers in South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi. The Project Associate will coordinate with financial institutions, insurance companies, Mars, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the provision of quality agricultural services and programmes that support the adoption of cocoa agroforestry to farmers in South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi. This position must have a strong understanding of capacity building and an understanding of the role of the public and private sector to support and increase the adoption of cocoa agroforestry by farmers.
This position will work with ACTIVE colleagues, colleagues at USAID and Mars clients, and other sectoral partners to design, implement, and ensure quality control of ACTIVE programme areas. The Project Associate is an integral part of the ACTIVE team and will have primary responsibility for ensuring quality and quality control of programme implementation.
Responsibilities
- Work to support the Project Manager in the North Kolaka region and supervise liaison with the Southeast Sulawesi provincial government.
- Coordinate and supervise with the Area Coordinator for North Kolaka.
- Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of project activities, with a primary focus on developing data to improve programme results.
- Conduct intensive coordination on field activities with partners including local government in North Kolaka and supervision for Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government.
- Support and coordinate activities at the district level including meetings, workshops, inaugurations, and provide support in relevant budget management.
- Provide technical support and necessary arrangements for organising workshops/seminars/meetings/advocacy events.
- Provide regular process documentation of all activity meetings, and relevant events.
- Maintain liaison with farmer groups and local government.
- Facilitate and manage project review meetings and supervision visits as scheduled in the work plan.
- Assist in conducting project baseline and endline surveys.
Qualifications
- At least a Bachelor's degree in forestry development, agriculture, or a relevant field.
- At least two years' experience in management consulting in international development programmes. Experience working on USAID-funded projects is a plus.
- Technical expertise in one or more related sectors (agroforestry, climate change adaptation, environment, etc.) a plus.
- Experience with productivity aspects of cocoa farming a plus.
- Ability to travel to remote field sites in South and Southeast Sulawesi (Luwu & Kolaka) for 2 weeks per month.
- Adaptable to new technology and new ways of working.
- Excellent management skills and commitment to a capacity building approach.
- Basic data management skills (Microsoft Office and Google applications)
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to coordinate well with people inside and outside the project, meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision while achieving benchmarks.
- Have a Proactive Attitude in carrying out work
- Fluent in written and spoken Indonesian and English
- Good writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
